Project nominated to AFCN Awards 2021, section “Addressing the young public with limited access to culture”.

Carnival of the Animals” proposes an original production of the work of the same name belonging to the French romantic composer Camille Saint-Saëns. For the staging of the well-known musical suite, 3 visual artists (Beatrice Iordan – animation director and animator; Florin Ghenade and Irinel Cîrlănaru – video artists) collaborated with 10 young instrumentalists (Andrei Gologan, Roxana Cîrciu – piano; Valentin Șerban, Andrei Stanciu – violin; Alexandru Spînu – viola; Izabela Ghergu – cello; Vlad Rațiu – double bass; Diana Nedelea – flute; Sebastian Antoneac – clarinet; Irina Rădulescu – xylophone and glockenspiel), coordinated by Adrian Buciu. As a result of this collaboration, an audio-video material was produced, with music and traditional animation (shadow puppetry).

The project also supports musical and artistic education for children from culturally disadvantaged areas – we organized the film exposure with the musical and animation show “Carnival of the Animals”, through video projections, in 10 creative workshops held in rural schools in Vâlcea county. Through these workshops, the children learned to build and handle the animal characters, made using specific shadow theater techniques, in short skits that they will create together.

The “Carnival of Animals” is the perfect pretext for a creative and playful presentation of musical instruments – children got to know no less than 10 instruments and their sounds: piano, violin, viola, cello, double bass, flute, piccolo flute, clarinet, glockenspiel and xylophone.
